What Are Essential Oils?

I love helping others learn more about incorporating natural products into their everyday lives. Using natural products shouldn’t be complicated. I would love to come alongside you in your wellness journey. I have resources for you to learn from and a supportive community that you can be a part of as well.

Essential Oil Facts

What are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are concentrated plant extracts obtained by careful steam distillation, cold pressing, or resin tapping. Pure essential oils are far more powerful than the botanicals from which they are extracted. Young Living’s essential oils (the brand I use recommend) are harvested from farm-grown and wild-crafted (harvesting plants from their natural habitat) plants, herbs, and trees.

It takes a great deal of work to produce a tiny amount of essential oil! For example, it takes 22 lbs of rose petals to create one bottle of Rose oil. But a little goes a long way. Depending on oil thickness (viscosity), a 5-ml bottle contains about 85 drops, and a 15-ml bottle contains about 250 drops.

What Do You Use Them For?

In humans, many provide support for every system in the body: like your muscular system, endocrine system and your hormones, respiratory system, and immune system. They support brain health and a healthy weight. They can be used for spiritual support in your prayer life.

They have been used for thousands of years as beauty aids and for emotional support. They can also be invigorating, uplifting, and energizing. Oils can also be used as an alternative to cleaning with chemicals in the home. You can start swapping out every single chemical in your home to live a healthier lifestyle.

How Do You Use Essential Oils?

Aromatically-inhale directly from the bottle or diffuse.

Topically-apply directly to the skin, being careful of the eyes. You may dilute with a carrier oil (a fatty oil like olive oil or coconut oil) which slows down the rate of absorption.

Internally-Young Living has a line of Vitality oils that are safe for use internally, identifiable by their white labels. You can also cook with a variety of them.

Why Make Changes To What I Bring Into My Home?

The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health studied 2,983 ingredients in our products at home and found 884 toxic ingredients. 314 of them caused biological mutations. 218 caused cancer tumors but were allowed in the United States, even though they were banned in other countries around the world.

Many of these chemicals are allowed in common cleaning supplies in the United States. Even beauty products are laden with chemicals-26 seconds after exposure, chemicals are found in measurable amounts in the human body. The average woman applies over 300 chemicals every day to her body just through soaps, makeup, shampoos, and hair care products!

Does it really matter where you get your oils?

Yes! Not all essential oils are created equally. Companies cut corners, by using pesticides to produce more crops to distill or a chemical solvent may be used to extract the oil to pull more out, or they are diluted with a cheaper oil or carrier oil (if you see a $6.00 bottle of Frankincense, it is a red flag that the oil is not pure). Young Living will never knowingly compromise by adding synthetics, contaminants, or cheap fillers, or by using unethical production practices.

Young Living’s oils are sourced from their corporate-owned farms, partner farms, and Seed to Seal-certified suppliers. The Seed to Seal promise is then proven in the lab where their quality testing and retesting are performed by more than 50 highly trained scientists. Young Living chooses to work only with partners they trust-those that produce pure essential oils and ingredients ethically and legally, but even with that trust, we engage third-party global experts to validate that our standards are being upheld. This helps to ensure that inferior or unethically sourced ingredients don’t make it to your home. That’s why I don’t buy from just anywhere.

If I Become a Customer Will I Have Sell Essential Oils?

No. You are never required to sell anything. I love being a part of Young Living and sharing the products with others. But if you have wanted to have your own home business with very little cost to you, this is a great company to work with.
