Hey! I am Melea Brown and I started my blog to reach out to women through stories from my life that offer simple ideas and encouragement, most in regards to family, the home and wellness. I am a Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Marvel geek. I love watching football and going to Switchfoot concerts with my family. And my weakness? Dark chocolate!! I am a teacher by trade. I have a teaching degree and I taught in a classroom for a couple of years and I homeschooled my kids for 15 years. I am a proud mom to three amazing kids and I get to share my life with my husband and best friend of 25 years! All of us and our sweet cat hail from Washington state.

What’s With the Name?

When my daughter was 4 years old she started putting on sunglasses, a pink feather boa, and lots of colorful necklaces. She would hold out one arm and have her other hand on her hip and say “style ‘n shine”. I am not quite sure where she came up with this line, but I found it cute. Fast forward to today and my beautiful daughter is in college and does not say her special line any more, but as I was thinking of a name for my blog, I thought I would do a variation on her line since one of the things I love to share about is essential oils and the many benefits of them. For me the shine part is about being who God has created you to be and not wasting time trying to be someone else. My daughter is an example of this, so the name is in honor of her.
