Christmas traditions are great to have to pass on to your kids. It is also great to make new ones together along the way.
One of my favorite memories growing up was riding around in the back seat of our car and taking in all the Christmas lights. Looking at all the bright lights and decorations made me happy. My love of this tradition has not changed.
My husband and I have carried on looking at lights with our own kids. At some point, we added in eating Blizzards while on our Christmas light adventure (although I usually drink hot chocolate).
Many towns and cities have lighting displays to drive through or special streets all lit up that you can walk around. Check and see if you have something like that where you live.

My Other Top Christmas Traditions
- Christmas movies are always fun to watch. I would watch Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Charlie Brown Christmas, and Frosty the Snowman every year when I was a kid. When I had my own kids, I loved sharing the experience of seeing these movies with them. Now our family favorite is Elf. Every year before we watch it, I make the sugar cookie dough. My kids still like using Christmas cookie cutters to cut out the dough. After the cookies are baked, they get decorated with frosting and sprinkles. We then enjoy the movie while eating our creations.
- We also have traditions on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. On Christmas Eve our kids open one present, which is most likely not pajamas. On Christmas Day, the first thing we do is watch each other open stockings-after my husband and daughter wake us all up with Christmas songs blaring through the speakers. Stockings are one of our favorite things to open because we put some fun things in them. Our family also loves sipping on some hot chocolate and devouring cinnamon rolls while we listen to the Christmas Story being read.
- Another fun idea we used with our kids was placing Christmas coupons in their stockings. My husband and I have made coupons for getting ice cream, extra game time, or staying up 30 minutes past their bedtime. I shared some Christmas Coupons in another blog post, click here to get some free ones you can use: Christmas Coupons
No matter what traditions you have in your family, the point is to spend quality time together during the holidays! Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
